The challenge to reproduce the Karmann Ghia Low Light Mats took years from concept to realization. After hundreds of hours I created a handmade bulkhead mat, very close to the original! The Low Light community liked it and pushed me to go for the complete set! After consulting a company that specializes in professional mold making, I was successful in reproducing a Low Light floor mat; two-sided/two colors, just like the original!
I am able to make a TOP thin rubber layer on one side, that is pigmented Brown/Beige, Green, Gray or Black. The BOTTOM black thicker rubber layer on the other side bonds into a single piece. This method makes it possible to reproduce the mats with texture in both sides!
The 3D scanned files helped in the mold design, as multiple registration post are needed. Nylon inserts are used to create the holes. When the manufacturing concept was confirmed, I offered to reproduce the complete set of 8 mats!
After a lot of work and a few thousand dollars, and the support of ALL of you, I am finally in the position to start the manufacturing! (Auto restoration services)THANK YOU!
